If you have dyslexia, ADHD, or another learning difference, you may qualify for government support through the Access to Work scheme. This UK government programme is designed to assist individuals with disabilities or learning differences by offering practical and financial support to remain in work or to start a new job. Importantly, this support is not means-tested and does not require repayment. Additionally, the Access to Work scheme can also provide services such as workplace coaching to help you succeed in your career.
Through the Access to Work scheme, you can obtain specialist software and assistive technology training, alongside funding for workplace coaching. If needed, you may also have a support worker to help you in your role. Additionally, you can access travel support if public transport is challenging.
Check your eligibility for the Access to Work scheme: you must be in paid employment, about to start a job, or self-employed. Apply online through the Access to Work website and provide details about your job and the difficulties you experience. Attend a workplace needs assessment to discuss your difficulties and set out what you need to help you work effectively. After that, Access to Work will agree on funding and outline the next steps. Finally, support will be put in place and reviewed as needed.
A dyslexia or ADHD assessment report will provide evidence of your literacy or other difficulties and outline useful adjustments and support.
I provide dyslexia and ADHD identification assessments for adults seeking evidence to support their applications for the Access to Work scheme.
For some individuals, understanding their profile is just the beginning. Ongoing coaching can effectively transform recommendations into practical, everyday strategies. Specialist coaching may enhance areas such as organisation, planning, managing deadlines, emotional regulation, study skills, workplace performance, and confidence.
